Major Transport Accidents

Major Transport Accidents

Transport accidents occur across Wales on a daily basis and there are well practiced plans in place to deal with these at local and regional levels.

One such example of a major transport accident in South Wales is the closure of the Brynglas tunnels that took place on 26th July 2011 when a lorry caught fire; this led to the closure of the tunnel for several days.

Risk impacts include:

  • Potential to cause widespread disruption to the travelling public.
  • Adverse impact on the welsh economy.

In the event of an incident members of the public are advised, where possible, to stay away from affected areas and listen for advice and information on local radio stations.
